Updates & Prayer for Ginny Smith

Update – Feb. 19,2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — by ginnysmith @ 4:31 am

I want to share good news I had from Dr. Vescio (my oncologist) the last time I went to Cedars.  He did a bone marrow aspiration and found no multiple myeloma cells visible.  My blood work was perfect, he said.  Also the protein was very low, but a little was visible.  He felt that was my body  working overtime to make up for my cells being so low.  I go back in March so he can monitor the maintenance medication I started a week ago.  Studies have shown that Thalamid and Prednisone are effective in destroying m.m. cells.  I am taking those two drugs right now.  I continue to enjoy more independence and more strength.  I’m walking farther and longer and I have graduated from only one stop at the mall to three without tiring out.  Retirement is looming and I am going through the process of  appointments and paperwork needed to do it in a timely manner.  I’m enjoying going to bible study on Wednesday morning with women and on Wed. evening with Don.  Needless to say, I am wonderfully encouraged and am so thankful for the miracle of healing that God has done in my body.  Prayer for me would include neuropothy to continue to decrease in my feet, no side effects from my medication, and my back to continue to heal.  I am able to do stretching and a limited amount of exercising on the floor which seems to help my back.  Feeling so much more like normal is encouraging.  I am so very thankful.

  4. …and I am so very thankful that God continues to respond to our prayers for you. Ginny girl, you are an amazingly strong woman to have gone through this past almost year and come out the otherside with such a positive attitude and renewed strength. Spring is just around the corner, well, maybe for you, but not here in New England, in any case, with Spring comes rebirth and renewal given to us by Jesus who gave up His life for us. It’s almost ironic how this has played out for you. Winter is such a doldrum time, even in CA, and especially being as sick as you were, and now the corner has been turned and His light is upon you. May His light continue to shine on you and all of us as we journey through this world.

I so look forward to seeing you in April. With all my love and happiness for your happiness. Rose

Great news! So glad all is going well with your meds and now exercising and walking the mall! What could be better than that? Hope to see you at Valencia sometime soon for a visit. We’d all love to see you!

    God bless!

  6. I have been so happy to hear about your recovery. We will continue to pray for more healing. Who would have thought feeling normal would feel so great! Everyone here is fine. Patrick is enjoying 6th grade with Karen Dahlquist. It’s hard to believe he will start junior high next year. I miss seeing you around school. I hope you continue to improve and that you feel stronger everyday.

  9. HAPPY EASTER, Ginny!
From the above blogs it sounds like you are “Back on the Block”. I too am anxious to see you next month. My girls, grandson, and son-in-law are here for Easter and we are having such fun together. The girls and I painted a dozen+ eggs this morning with acrylics. Some of the eggs Jen blew out so we can keep. I pulled out my art stuff from Valencia for some inspiration and I must say they look pretty good…a few Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh inspired. We took Graham sledding, although he wasn’t too cool with the idea. He preferred throwing snowballs bare handed. We still have considerable snow on the ground. I also had a maple sugaring tour planned, but nap time took precident, perhaps another day. Tomorrow church and time with great-grandma and Easter dinner. I bought him a battery operated bubble making gun and he loves having his Daddy create bubbles over the upstairs railing and he dances through them as they fall. It reminded me of Dahlquist and her antics with bubbles at school. I know you are enjoying this joyous time with your entire family. It doesn’t get any better than family and friends, does it? Happy Spring and God Bless you all. Love, Rose

  11. I’m almost on my way. Leaving in a few hours for sunny southern CA. Would you believe it’s beautiful here and all the ground snow is gone at our house, however, the lake is still frozen, but not by much. Hope to see you on Fri evening, tomorrow, at Antonnucci’s. I will be at Valencia that day, tomorrow, during the lunch periods like always. Can’t wait to hug you. It has been a year, and what a year it has been, BUT!!! We are both here to talk about it and thank God Almighty for that!!! Love you, Ginny Girl! Rose

  12. You looked so great and healthier than ever–God is good ! Hope Leslie gave you the information about reunion with Rose at Antonnucci’s (Alicia and Muirlands behind CVS) at 5:30, Friday, today, the 18th. Just a quick drop by for a visit would be soooo wonderful. Pat and I will still try to drop by the first Friday of each month that we go to Janis’ class up the street from you. Would love to have you join us. No need to bring anything. She provides almost everything and we share !

Hello to the family and God Bless all of you and all take care! (avoid this year’s cold virus, it really hit me hard)

  14. Very, very dearest Ginny and Don. Today I’ve been writing and in that work I was talking about early days of EFC in Camarillo. Naturally, my mind flew to the two of you, to your voices, your spirits, your very precious friendship.

I think more often of you than you might imagine since Dave’s brother is also in remission from MM. We follow the regimen and think of yours then pray for you both.

So, I popped to this site and wish to tell you that I love you and love my memory of your sweet friendship. I will continue to pray for your strength and that you might be occasionally relieved from the requirements of this battle and refreshed by delightful surprises. Love to you both, Barb
