Updates & Prayer for Ginny Smith

Birthday Update- May 9, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — by ginnysmith @ 3:28 pm

Dear family & friends,

Today is Ginny’s birthday. Yesterday had its ups and downs but last night had her best sleep. She awoke and is resting up for some family birthday time tonight.  We anticipate a better day today.

As we are going through this stormy time our thoughts often turn to the Lord. I have been reading as time allows to nurture my life with Christ. A line from “When I Don’t Desire God, How to Fight for Joy” by John Piper has stimulated my passion. “Only God can create joy in God. This is why the old saints not only pursued joy but prayed for it: “Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us” (Ps.90:15) To be satisfied by the beauty of God does not come naturally to sinful people. By nature we get more pleasure from God’s gifts than from Himself.”

We are touched by the prayers of so many of you. Our dear church is gathering to pray for us this evening, Ginny’s birthday. How this gladens us. We also are praying our Father will be most glorified by our being most satisfied in Christ. We are praying to count this affliction with all joy. If glorifying Christ becomes our desire even in this difficult time joy will become our pleasure.

Thanks again to all of you.

 Joy-Seekers

  1. Dearest Don and Ginny, I and the EFCA West team only today learned of this. We grieve with you, trust with you, and pray with you. Clearly, you have an army of Aarons and Hurs coming under your arms to love you, pray with and for you, and we want to join that throng. You are two precious, faithful, and courageous servants of Jesus.Thank you for being to so willing to candidly share this journey with the rest of us… We love and appreciate you. 12. Hi Ginny
Hope your birthday was special with your family surrounding you with love. I’m glad you liked the basket that Kirby put together for you. She did it so lovingly, she called me to tell me about it that very day she had shopped for all the goodies. All our good Valencia wishes came with it.
Talked to Marcia Sargent and she is sending her love to you. She leaves for Hawaii on Tuesday so I will email your website to her today.
Talked to Sharon McBee today also and she wanted your home address. I don’t have your new one in San Clemente, I don’t think we got an updated address list this year. Anyway, I gave her this website.
You are in my prayers daily and there’s an angel on your shoulder from all of us at Valencia. God bless!
    Love, Nancy

  13. GINNY and DON–
I last saw you at the 3rd grade inservice this fall. Our bible study prayed for you tonight. How our hearts go out to you, as my mom battled multiple myeloma in the strength of the Lord. God was tremendously faithful to her, and she drew great comfort from knowing that there were many who were praying for her. Whenever she got a blood transfusion, we prayed that she would feel as if it were the blood of Jesus going through her veins, sending healthy cells throughout her body.
It is also amazing that the verse you quoted about joy,
Psalm 90:15, was also a verse I claimed for my mom. I will be praying that verse for you.
We love you, Ginny and Don, and so do many others in the body of Christ.

  16. Dear Ginny~

I was stunned to learn of your illness. I had just sent my birthday cards to you via the district’s mail system (1 mushy card and 1 silly one, of course!). I miss our coffee times together and catching up on everything going on in our lives. You’ve been in my constant prayers and thoughts. Many times I’ve wanted to pick up the phone and call you, but I am respecting your wishes for privacy. I hope you know how much you’ve blessed my life and that even though we don’t teach next door to each other any longer, I still think of you, often. I will continue to keep you in my prayers for healing, and I trust that God will deliver that request. I can see that you have a huge support system and I’m grateful for that. Love and Care Always, Debby James and the entire James Family.

  18. Dear Ginny and Don…
We continue to pray for you and our hearts are full of love and compassion. In the midst of all this upheavel in your life, you celebrated a birthday and Mother’s Day! I know Don and your beautiful family were there to honor you, for you truly are an amazing woman and an example of the Proverbs 31 woman. There are so many who love and respect you…may you draw strength on that and know how you both have touched our life in a very special way. We just wanted to pass on our love to you…and more prayers lifted up for you both and the entire family. We will not cease in doing so!!!!!!!!!!

May you feel the Lord’s peace, as He said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” This verse comforted me during a difficult time, and I will be praying it for you….
    With much love…

  20. Was so sorry to here about what is happening with Ginny. Our prayers are with all of you.
When I went through this exact situation, you and Ginny were both there with me and my family. You were so helpful and encouraging to all of us as we struggled with the cancer that took JoAnne.

Just wish I could be there for the two of you. If you want to talk or pray or cry with someone who God choose to share this exact experience 10 years before you, I would be honored to spend some time with you both. Some times it helps to get a perspective from history. God is sufficient in all things, but sometimes ordinary people can help also.

One last thought, encouragement and laughter is a great gift in these tough times. There are great blessings that come from a family going through a long illness, times to say and do simple things, that one would not do if, not going through the fire.

    Love you.

  26. Dear Ginny and Don,
You all are in my heart and prayers as you walk through deep waters. Some of the Scriptures that have ministered to me the most during my trials are Isaiah 41:10,13 and Isaiah 43:1-3a, Romans 8:35-37. I memorize them and bask in the truth of these as I need strength. I’ve found that only in trials such as you are going through do we experience the fullest depth of Christ’s love and presence as we lie prostrate before Him.
I pray that the power of His love and the presence of the Holy Spirit will fill and empower you in these difficult and uncertain hours and days. May you experience all that He has reserved for you, for you are His children and His obedient servants.
Be assured of my love. I wish I could tell you in person how much I care and love you both.

  27. Hi Ginny
Just was thinking of you and wanted to tell you how often you are thought of by me and all of your friends at Valencia. We miss you. Tracy is doing a great job, she is so sweet. She has a lovely poster of pictures of you and your kids on your classroom door. I saw it on our yearly walk about after Open House.
You and your family continue to be in my prayers. God bless! Stay strong, you’ve got lots of angels fluttering around you!
    Love, Nancy
P.S. Saw your darling Andrew when he was coming to school with Marie. He was so sweet and asked first if Marie needed help with anything and then asked me too. What a love!
